How to Clean the Toilet Tank
This is something that gets overlooked. Add it to a spring and fall cleaning list.
1. Turn off the water supply to the toilet by turning the shut-off valve clockwise.
2. Flush the toilet to empty the tank.
3. Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands and sprinkle baking soda into the tank.
4. Add white vinegar, using a scrub brush or sponge to help spread the mixture around the tank.
5. Allow the mixture to sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the baking soda and vinegar to work to disinfect and clean.
6. Scrub the entire tank with a nylon brush or sponge to help loosen debris and grime.
7. Rinse the tank by flushing the toilet.
8. Turn on the water supply and refill the tank.
9. Flush the toilet to check for any remaining debris.
How to Clean a Shower Head
If you prefer not to remove the shower head you can tie a bag filled with vinegar instead of using a bucket.
1. Fill a shallow bucket or bowl with white vinegar and place the shower head in it.
2. Let it soak for an hour.
3. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the vinegar away.
4. Rinse the shower head with hot water.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 if necessary.
How to Clean a Bathroom Top to Bottom
1. Start with the ceiling. Vacuum any dust and cobwebs and then wipe down with a cloth and an all-purpose cleaner or an antiseptic cleaner.
2. Wash the walls and any fixtures. Be sure to pay special attention to areas around the sink and toilet that may be more prone to dirt and mildew.
3. Clean the vanity and sink. Scrub off any stuck-on dirt or grime and then wipe down with an all-purpose cleaner and disinfectant.
4. Sanitize the toilet. Scrub with a toilet brush and a toilet cleaner.
5. Wash the floors. Sweep or vacuum first to remove any dirt and debris. Mop using an all-purpose cleaner or floor specific cleaner.
6. Clean the shower and bathtub. Scrub with a cleaning brush or scrubber and an all-purpose or bathtub cleaner.
7. Clean the mirrors and any glass.
Don’t forget the vent, lighting and tile and grout.
