Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
This is an all time favorite that is classic and calls for butter and shortening. Definitely not healthy, but grandkids are sure to love them. Chocolate Chip Cookies have been around forever and there are so many variations for them now. Of course, Nestle Tollhouse is the most popular, but this is a version that is also sure to be a favorite in your home. Cookies are great for travel, picnics and care packages. Make a batch for college students to take back to the dorms and enjoy with roommates.
These can be made as cookies, but they can also be made as cookie bars. Feel free to add nuts of any kind and substitute semi sweet chocolate chips with white chocolate chips. Place them in a sealed container to keep them soft and use wax paper between each layer so they don't stick together.

For Cookies: Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Ingredients:
1/2 Cup of butter, softened
1/2 Cup shortening
1 Cup packed brown sugar
1/2 Cup of granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 Cups of all-purpose flour
1 12 ounce package (2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips or chips of your choice
1 1/2 Cups of nuts of your choice (optional)
Mixing Ingredients and Baking
1. In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar and baking soda. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon. Stir in chocolate chips and, if desired, nuts.
2. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto an un-greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Transfer cookies to a wire rack and let cool.
