How to Shampoo Your Hair

How often do we slap shampoo on our head, scrub, rinse, and towel off?

Does this really clean our scalp?

Over time, not washing properly can result in dull film for lackluster hair and flat, dull appearance.

We don’t need a degree for a hair care routine. There are hair washing hacks that will make a difference in our hair health. They can make it bounce and shine and bring back a silky luster.

Hair Washing Tips

Thoroughly Wash Hair

Be sure hair is completely wet before adding shampoo. Warm water will open up the cuticle, which is good for removing dirt and product build up in your hair.

Condition First

Sometimes. If you have long hair, try to condition first. If your hair falls below your shoulders, protect the fragile ends from drying out and result in more damage.

Try running a small amount of conditioner like Volumizing Revitalize Conditioner through the ends and lightly rinse before applying shampoo. This will help keep ends healthy, and fill any breaks in the cuticle with moisture.

Avoid Too Much Shampoo

How much shampoo are you using? You only need the size of a quarter. A shampoo like Renew Shampoo removes all the dirt and grim while holding onto the essential oils you need to prevent dryness and breakage.

Don’t Scrub

Vigorously scrubbing shampoo can rough the cuticle, cause frizz, flyaways and tangles. Give the scalp a gentle massage instead.

Shampoo the Scalp

The hair closest to the scalp is the youngest and will be the oiliest. The ends are the oldest and are usually the driest and most fragile.

First, rub shampoo between hands to emulsify. Then, gently massage your roots with fingertips and run the lather through the length. Then, Repeat a second wash.

The Reason We Wash Twice

The first wash lifts and removes excess dirt and grime. The second wash gets your hair clean by washing the dirt and grime away. The second wash is also when we get the shampoo to the roots and create a proper lather. The suds will run down the hair and clean the ends.

How Often to Wash and Hair Type

If you have oily or fine hair, you may need to wash daily.

Normal hair can probably be washed three times a week or every three days.

Dry to very dry hair can go four to five days and maybe even a week without washing.

Skip the Sulfates

Sulfates are detergents that give shampoo its foamy lather. But they strip skin of oil and dry out your hair. Sulfates can strip hair of color. Shampoos without sulfates keep the cuticle tighter, which prevents color fading. Use a shampoo without harsh ingredients like Monat Products
