You are God’s own masterpiece. That means you are neither ordinary nor average. You are a one-of-a-kind, an original. When God created you, He went to great lengths to make you exactly the way He wanted you to be. He gave you the right personality, the right gifts, the right talents, and the right connections to do exactly what He’s called you to do. We all strive to look perfect, to have the perfect body, hair, facial features, and much more. But in your venture to perfection, have you missed the fact that you were already made perfect by the Most High God? As Christians, rather than going to the world to obtain validation or confirmation about one’s self-worth and self-confidence, we are encouraged to seek our validation through the word of God. Ephesians 2:10, states, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Not only are we His masterpieces, but He knew who we would be and He had a plan for us from the time of creation. When an artist sets out to create a piece, he or she has a vision for what it will be. But it often fails to meet their expectations. In his short life, Van Gogh created more than 2,100 pieces of art. We only know and recognize a handful. That is not what happened when God created you and me. He saw us while we were dead in our sins yet knew what we could become and loved us despite our shortcomings. He offered us grace when we were slaves to sin so that we could become the masterpiece He created us to be. Perhaps you believe you have too much baggage, for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords to give you any grace. But the truth of the matter is, that because of God’s grace, through the sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ, there is nothing you can do that would place you beyond the reach of God…Jesus’ death ensured that.
Whether we shout it out loud, read it, meditate upon it, or simply hear it, we can’t ignore the fact that God’s truths are final and the ultimate source of truth. I know that’s easily said, not easily done. Perhaps you’re not where you want to be in your career or maybe you're struggling with being a new student and you've lost the confidence to do the things you were once passionate about doing before. Or maybe you can’t get out of this funk because of past relationship failures and disappointments. You name it. You may have even asked yourself, how is it possible that I am a masterpiece? The answer is simple, your status as a masterpiece is true, not because of how healthy you are, how accomplished you are, how smart you are, the stocks you own, the family you came from, or how many social media followers you have. God views you as His masterpiece because of His grace and His grace alone. You are beautiful in every way. You may not feel that way today. You may be painfully aware of where your beauty falls short of the world’s ideal. But in God’s eyes you are altogether lovely and a masterpiece. Today, don’t settle for living a mediocre existence. Every morning when you get out of bed, remind yourself, I am a masterpiece who was handpicked by God and I have intrinsic significance and value. You are an original. You’re not meant to be like everyone else. God designed you the way you are for a purpose. The enemy will try to use your beauty against you but remember that God created you to embrace your beauty, not to chase after it. Don’t waste away your efforts chasing after the beauty that is already in you. God’s works are all wonderful and beautiful, which includes you. Don’t allow the world to redefine your beauty because God has already defined the beauty within you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, this news is almost too good to be true. You called me Your masterpiece and that is amazing. Almost too amazing for me to believe. I am so aware, Lord, of my failures and shortcomings. And although you know the ways I have continued to miss the mark, You still see me as valuable not because of my efforts, but because of your amazing grace. I thank You for what you have begun to do in me through Christ. Thank You for extending Your grace to me even when I was dead in sin. Lord, when I feel less than worthy of Your love, remind me that You have created me for good works and have prepared amazing things for me to accomplish in my lifetime. Amen.
